I don't know what your budget is but I rather like this: UPHOLSTERED ROSEWOOD CHAISE LONGUE, CIRCA 1938 BY JEAN ROYÈRE

Cool furniture, design objects and desiderata

^ I have posted tons of rare design objects -- the problem is many examples cost more than a luxury car. The Market for 'Design Art' has taken a hit from the global downturn -- but prices for contemporary works by Marc Newson, Studio Job, Zaha Hadid, Ron Arad, Joris Laarman, as well as the...

A matter of taste: Rolls-Royce vs Maybach vs Bentley

I love Italian cars ...I would prefer a Maserati to that Lancia. Ferrari is my favourite.

A matter of taste: Rolls-Royce vs Maybach vs Bentley

The Rolls, Maybach and Bentley are in fact just kitsch status symbols. The Bugatti is an aesthete's luxury toy first and foremost. For getting around comfortably and tastefully, just give me a VW Phaeton, a Citroen C6, or a Lancia Thesis--and a good driver. Even Audis are just middle class tacky...

A matter of taste: Rolls-Royce vs Maybach vs Bentley

Aston Martin db4. I know nothing about cars but of all the British labels I find Aston Martin most appealing. I have no idea if that view could be reinforced by technical superiority. If someone says Bentleys are better cars I'd just believe them. Oops ... an Aston, it is very nice.

A matter of taste: Rolls-Royce vs Maybach vs Bentley

You don't buy these cars if you have taste. You buy these cars if you have money. A lot. Ha ha ...yes, I think you're correct. But that is not to say that to own one is to have no taste. They are all vile. It reminds me of a story I once heard: Elizabeth Taylor was wearing a necklace set with...

^ yeah I like the A8 too. However, worrying about appearing ostentatious is frightfully bourgeois lol

A matter of taste: Rolls-Royce vs Maybach vs Bentley

You see the thing is, for me, the Maybach's interior is quite bland and unimaginative. I like the Maybach because it is a beautifully made and engineered machine ...but it almost completely lacks class (for want of a better word). The thing that mostly establishes the Maybach as something above...

A matter of taste: Rolls-Royce vs Maybach vs Bentley

I like all three cars but they are very different from each other. I view the Maybach as being a very corporate limousine. It is intended to impress rather than inspire. It is probably the most self-conscious of the three. It wants very much to be the ultimate status symbol. Rolls and Bentley...

A matter of taste: Rolls-Royce vs Maybach vs Bentley

OK, since all of us here tend to be very opinionated about matters concerning taste and style, lets get your thoughts on these vehicles. Which is the most stylish ...and what kind of impression does it make to own one. Obviously, all of these vehicles can suffer from the effects of...

Cool furniture, design objects and desiderata

I really like Laarman's style! Would fit nicely in my living room I like it too. Aesthetically, it reminds me a little bit of designs by Hector Guimard from the late-19th century. They're fantastic. Very similar to his famous 'Sansone' tables from the '80s. I like them very much.

    The Architecture Thread

I don't think it's a house. I believe it is a showroom and I think it functions pretty well for displaying various themes and layouts. Yeah, that quantity of chairs points toward display/showroom/museum It is also kind of scary how many of those different chairs are owned by me or my family...

    Growing tired of mid-century modern...

So any interior designers/architects here seeing new trends? Will the whole never-quite-there 80s revival thing in clothes translate over to homes? I, for one, think it most certainly will. Late '70s and '80s furniture design is totally dominated by the Italians (or designers working in Italy...
