Reflecting on this and reviewing my own thought, I realize that my bals are always"sleeker" than my bluchers. Is this not a truth, conventional wisdom, or actually the way things are? Thinking about construction, it seems like a reasonable enough rule of thumb.- Grumpton

I love my Daltons, and I don't think they are particularly wide boot, but I would not call them sleek. As the leather on the boot naturally stretched, I wish I had a narrower shoe, but that really depends on your foot. I wear a D-width, but don't have a particularly full foot. Got fitted at Allen Edmonds store, but still not sure about size
This sounds so strange to me. They should have fitted you to several different shoes on several lasts. You want to know what size you are in the last (or 2) that best fits your foot. Go in again (I know you said it's an hour away) and get the right size in several lasts. You might be a 12E in...- Grumpton

This. I'm just going to add that if it's not the right last for your foot, don't buy the shoe. Yeah, you can get it stretched or whatever, but IMO if the shoe doesn't fit, don't get it. PERIOD. I won't comment further on bal vs bluchers fit. I guess I don't have that problem so am...- Grumpton

As a consultant myself, your work wardrobe is partly dictated by the type of clients, regions and the firm you work for. If you are an auditor for a big 4, you're not going to want Chelsea boots. Shoe trees go in the shoes as soon as I have them. That's where they just go. Otherwise, why would I take up twice the space? Do they have to go in new shoes? Probably not. My Allen Edmonds Experience - Looking for Alternatives
Assuming you are in Brooklyn NYC, I'd suggest looking through the link provided by Turk, then seeing if you can find shops in NYC to try stuff on. I have finicky feet, so getting the wrong last will produce horrifying results. Get a shoe that fits first, get the best shoe you can afford second...- Grumpton

I have 65 bluchers (Bradley) and balmorals (Park Ave). They both fit me the same. There is some small variation in each shoe that could account for different experiences, and all my AE shoes are shells, so I don't think they stretch like calf does.
