Those are eerily similar. Take away the medallion and a color-blind guy might think you had a pair.

Is it my imagination, or does the tree in the EG fit much better and keep the vamp in a better shape? the G&G looks like the vamp is kind of pinched together up top.

Thanks, now for some trickers or sargents we all know you have ... Compared to the 606 or 888 would do nicely imo.

The same guy who designed 888 being the last @ EG and 71 possibly the first on his own acount? Think the vamp is due to the sole shape, fidleback and tight waist. but im but a novice.

The G&G shoe tree is lasted and a perfect fit. The EG tree is not a bad fit but it's deigned to fit several lasts (888 & 82 or 202 & 606 IIRC) and is not available in half sizes either.

Your observations are certainly correct in as much as the G&G lasted tree does elongate the 'mouth'? of the shoe much more.

Here's an Alfred Sargent on the 87 last in 'F' alongside the Tricker's 1829 last (4537) in a '5':

Comparative shots with the 888 & 606 to follow.

i strongly disagree on that.
the eg has a much broader toe/forefoot and it is less curve-shaped in the transition of middlefoot to forefoot.

and besides the toeshape when you compare the u throats the g&g throat looks more like a humerus head whereas the eg resembles more of an "u".

both look good, but i like the 888 better.

Keep in mind that pics with the shoes pointing 'up' are not much use for comparison as the angle distorts the toe shape. Also, sizes should be noted as that affects overall shape.

For my money, the G&G chisel beats the 888.

C&J 348 and EG 82 are two of the most beautiful lasts out there.
