Wurkin Stiffs - Are you kidding me?

There is talk about this elsewhere, and I figured I would bring it up here. This has to be the tackiest thing I have ever seen. As someone who owns them, what's so tacky about them?

Some of us don't have to wear a tie every day (for example, I am doing a Psychiatry rotation at the moment and can not have something around my neck for someone to grab on to) and I do not like button-downs. I'd rather use them than have my collar possibly flopping around. I don't wear them with most shirts as having only the top button undone usually suffices but they come in handy on occasion. Also on more casual outings when I wear an unbuttoned (top two) shirt sans tie e.g. I went to a lounge in NY 2 weekends ago for a friend's birthday. All of my classmates were in jeans while I was in a shirt and dress pants. Throwing a tie in the mix would have been too much for that crowd.

I don't have the extra money to try them at the moment but it does seem like an innovation that could be useful in a business environment.

I work in a business casual environment and I'm already slightly overdressed wearing suit pants/trousers and a dress shirt. My collars always flop around and get a little sloppy by the end of the day. A tie would be too much at my job. I've really considered getting these but the fact that the magnets are so powerful that they are potentially dangerous has made me avoid purchasing them so far.

Two more candidates: 1) The man who believes that the only appropriate shirt to wear without a tie is a buttondown, but wants to bend his own rule. 2) The man who obsesses about getting the perfect roll on his collar. Other than that, I agree. They're the shirt equivalent of body modifications. If you think that your shirts are a temple and that fake boobs are cheating, you won't like these.

Why not get a shirt with those hidden button down collars (buttons down, but can't see the button). This just seems to me to be obessive compulsively anal retentive. How many times have your collar points actually gotten in your way? Anyone ever have an eye poked out by a flyaway collar (not counting 70's style 6" collars)?

Depending on the shirt, I'll wear them when I'm wearing an open collar with a sportcoat as they keep the shirt collar from slipping under the coat lapel.

As per above, I do no like them.

The collar stays are hidden. They are not some kind of accessory being added to my appearance.

Really, the Würkin Stiffs (TM) magnets are superfluous if one has the right personality, namely, a magnetic one.

If it's got an umlat, it's got to be good.

That's hilarious coming from this forum (or someone coming from AAAC which is the inspiration for this thread) where people are obsessive about every little detail of their clothing.
