Where and how are you going to display it? And do you have any other taxidermies?

I have it displayed on top of a chest, which is right above an old leopard skin rug. I do have others, but I'm afraid to show them. Ideally, I'd want it inside a glass case since dust and light tends to destroy these things over time.

It's a '70s cork and chrome pen holder. It's a large cork ball on a chrome base with 5 holes in it to hold pens and such.

I think it's akin to a toddler as it's fairly large for a baby crocodile.

I just found some more interesting pieces on flickr. They're not impressive taxidermies, but I enjoy how they're presented.

Sleeping fox in a giant martini glass: http://www.flickr.com/photos/polly_morgan/172225817/
Fallen robin with a prayer book and small chandelier: http://www.flickr.com/photos/polly_morgan/150766855/
A chick looking over its parent: http://www.flickr.com/photos/polly_morgan/123677765/
A rat (or something) in a smaller martini glass: http://www.flickr.com/photos/polly_morgan/123677762/
A rabbit in a top hat: http://www.flickr.com/photos/polly_m...n/photostream/

More here: http://www.pollymorgan.co.uk/

I also find it interesting how taxidermy has had a resurgence in the art world as being "avant-garde" again in the past several years.

Yes, taxidermy has somehow become an "artistic" expression now, which is not necessarily surprising given that this may be the only way that it may be fully practiced in the contemporary context. Were people doing it simply for the old reasons, it would be construed as "politically incorrect."

Horse's ass, I say:

They're reminiscent of the works of Victorian taxidermist Walter Potter: http://www.taxidermy4cash.com/potter.html The tableau titled 'the death' is particularly moving. He had a talent for conveying expression - look at the sad face of the monkey riding the donkey too! Its a shame the collection was broken up.

I like these. I wonder if children book authors took taxidermies as inspirations in the old days, as I'm fairly certain I've seen similar like-minded illustrations.
