Sulka has been shuttered for several years but you still may be able to find NOS (new old stock) on eBay. That's about it.

If I'm not mistaken Sulka ties are regarded very highly and in the same class as top tier brands like Brioni.

Granted, I've never seen a Brioni tie in person, but I can attest to the fact that they were as well constructed as any tie I have seen, and they used wonderful silks.

and for some reason at Filene's Basement sometimes.

Apart from the ties (and maybe the robes), I have to say the Sulka stuff from the very end of its reign can be somewhat disappointing.

For many years Sulka's ties were made on 32nd st between 5th and 6th.
I forget the name of the factory. Same building as Chris-arto.
The sulka tie had a stitch that went in the portion of the tiie under the collar.
This gave the tie more stability.

I bought one of those Sulka ties with the stitching on eBay a few years ago and it's truly beautiful. Made in France though, not USA.

p.s. 6 years has to be the all-time thread revival record!

The French-made ones were the ones I had. I bought them from Syms, back in the days when Sulka was owned by the Syms family and sent their overstocks there. One of them was my favorite tie ever, and though worn out, I have kept it out of sentiment. They were very good, but I think that high-end tie construction has improved over the years as people have paid more attention and makers have tried to differentiate themselves. Other than the unique stitching in the collar-band area, I can't think of anything that made them any different than a dozen other high end makers' output, and there are several makers who make better stuff today.

I have the impression that the older Sulka incarnations sourced goods from different places, and I know for a fact that the last Sulka ties trickled in from France, possibly made by Boivin.

It's a person who deals in midcentury items. I've asked him for an inventory and some photographs, but get ready for some really dated swank things like Moire Silk Ties and narrow ties with embroidered fleur de lis on them.
