Get ready for the bal boot hate brigade.

I like 'em, though.

Are you referring to the shoes? They are bauxite which has an orange / red hue.

It is! Actually it's a Shannon II to be precise.

No 888's here. I decided to give the 606 a go following a successful fitting back in November. They do look like the 888 though don't they.

Yes, they do look like 888 from the angle of the pictures.

Ahh, the next pair will be a Shannon I but with a twist. Firstly, all credit must go to Eustace Tilley for his magnificent tweed Shannons. I have stolen his idea and commissioned a dark oak & mink suede combo but with an edwardian calf facing.

Absolutely. I didn't think you would have mistaken them for a moment had you seen them in the flesh.

I've come to understand the theoretical appeal of bal boots. But I'm interested in the thought process that leads to ordering them with burgundy suede uppers.

The normal shoes look nice.

Well, I guess it may be different for others but I like the idea of a contrast leg and the suede is comfortable around the ankle.

What I really like is that the boot is a chameleon... under the drape of one's trouser leg, the boot appears to be little more than a shoe. It's colour and antiquing set it apart from the black oxford masses, but when I sit down, BANG! Those suede tops are killer

The vast majority of my shoes are of a conservative nature. It's nice to add a little flare from time to time.
