Homage to Catalonia?
Have not read that, nor Burmese Days.

With Orwell, I would rank both Animal Farm and Keep The Aspidistra Flying (two very different works) ahead of 1984, although the latter is obviously iconic. I have not read "Down and Out", but it sounds like I may have to.
1984 was supposedly a ripoff of a book that I can't recall at the moment.
Anyone know of any good biographies?

lawyerdad, as I have noted to myself before, you have darn good taste! Keep the Aspidistra Flying is a wonderfully engaging and humane novel that I can't urge people to read strongly enough. There's much more to Orwell beyond the "greatest hits."

As for me, still meandering through the Palliser series, now into Phineas Redux.
