I just picked up a RLPL linen shirt and a Lorenzini cotton/linen blend that I really like the fit of, but both are very scratchy.. is there a special technique to softening the fabric? the all linen is darker blue, so I'm also concerned that laundering it could fade the colors
any recommendations?
thanks

I would just wash it with cold water and use a good fabric softener.

Have you worn the shirts before laundering them? I launder my shirts at least once before I wear them, to soften them. Those are both better makers so I doubt that they're using substandard linen.

I haven't worn either yet... looking for tips.. is this residual starch to allow the fabric to be cut easier in constructing the shirts? I have a number of cheap linen that are very soft, but are like wearing a tent (and I'm not a small guy)
just want to make sure I do things properly to maintain colors and prevent shrinkage, etc
thanks for the replies though

Excellent linen bed sheets (and a great washing & linen care FAQ )
