It's not the stuff that EG calls "˜Country Calf'.

EGHighlanders.jpg

"˜Gorse Calf' and "˜Heather Gorse' (embossed), if I understand it correctly, are oil-tanned or oil-finished leathers and tough as the proverbial old boots they were turned into. Because of the oil content, the leather is always semi-matte.

I just see the "˜Falkirk' as essentially a 1930s country/hunting shoe. That's the reason why I wanted the details of the shoe (leather, welt, eyelets) to reinforce that look.

Mind you, it is a town shoe to be worn with thin socks. I wouldn't be able to get into the shoes wearing that hand-knitted hunting hose.

Hey Bengal, very nice shoes! Just a quick question, are the falkirks MTO or are they a stock shoe?

Pretty sure they were charged at a Top Drawer price but someone "forgot" to make them to Top Drawer standard...

But why should somebody, who is interested in bespoke shoes, rival with a RTW collector.

The few MTO and IIRC three bespoke shoes do not count towards a quality advantage.

The country calf and heather gorse actually have a slightly different texture from each other, the former not quite as three-dimensional, its high points a bit less densely spaced.

These arrived this morning and just in time for Christmas. My wife ordered these for me with my monogram (DCW) from Shipton & Heneage.

Thanks ET. As much as I like Ralph Lauren, I would rather have my own initials on my velvet shoes.

Are those black or navy? I assuming you'll be wearing these to black-tie events?

They are black.

We don't have much in the way of black tie events any more. I will enjoy these around the house for Christmas-Boxing Day, and for parties with more casual attire rather than a tux. I think they look great with my jeans and a cashmere sweater.
