And is the the grand-mÃ

sure minimum still four?

Thanks.

Demi-mesure requires a few minutes. It is a very limited made-to-measure thing. grand-mesure usually requires 2 weeks between first and second visit, but may be hurried slightly. I doubt they could do 6 days.

Sorry, not sure on the minimum order.

Not sure if you already knew this, but the demi-measure program really is limited. They use your collar size and sleeve length. Then you select a stock body, which cannot be taken in at the waist and cannot (?) be hemmed. It's closer to MTO than MTM, it seems. At Bergdorf, they were very open and honest about the limitations of the program and let me know up front they wouldn't be able to fit me properly.

+1, except that BG allowed me to order my demi-mesure with slight waist suppresion (1 inch) from the stock body. Also, as you probably know you can pick the collar and cuff.

There is no minimum at Charvet for grande mesure. 6 days is not enough time for grande mesure at Charvet. They usually need about two weeks to get the try-on shirt ready. That is then tried on and adjusted, and the real shirt ordered is made up. That can take up to six weeks or two months. It is really advisable to try on that shirt as well, and to come back to the shop after having worn and washed your first shirt several times in order for any final adjustments to be made for any additional shrinkage. While Charvet pre-washes the cloth they make into shirts, there is always a little additional shrinkage.

Thanks, M.

I wouldn't consider demi-mÃ
00a9.png
sure at a US retail location, only at the Place Vendome home store where it seems plausible that mastery over their wares would be complete, and where, perhaps, there might be options for fit and fabric not available elsewhere. If someone could confirm or refute this conjecture, that would be great.

But, if I cannot fit the grand-mÃ
00a9.png
sure fittings into six days, I will probably skip doing it altogether. I am assuming that is too short a time.

This isn't accurate for Charvet. I believe you are describing their US program. Their MTM program is quite limited, but I know it is not nearly that limited. They will adjust the fit through the body, lengthen or shorten the shirt, lengthen or shorten the sleeves. They will NOT, unfortunately, cut slimmer sleeves, larger cuffs, or do much else. You get coarse adjustment as to the fit through the body, width in the shoulders, length of the sleeves, and length of the body. Nothing else. Of course, they will do limited adjustments after the fact.

Charvet has a maximum of one shirt for the first bespoke order and will not be able to have a fitting ready in less than two weeks.

That's not what I was told at Bergdorf; of course, it's entirely likely the U.S. options are much more limited.

It's worth going for demi-mesure shirts in Paris just for the awesome selection of fabrics you can choose from.

I will be in London for the week before, so two weeks would almost be feasible with Chunnel pop-in. But, sounds like too much effort for clothes.

I plan on seeing AM (among others) when I travel to southern Italy next summer, so maybe I'll just be patient.

Thanks for all the responses, guys.

I had asked about sending measurements or going somewhere in the US for a demi-measure shirt, and been told that this wasn't possible. I suspect that you are correct, it's MTO in the US, MTM at Place Vendome. Be ready to cry yourself to sleep, by the time you get there, the Euro will be worth roughly $30. I paid half of 6 demi-mesure shirts a while ago, and am dreading the balance.

Yes, I know...I've been there before and that store is a very special place.

I still treasure the four Charvet RTWs I picked up on a Paris trip almost thirteen years ago...they continue to survive commercial laundering. They seem so dissimilar to the RTW that I have seen in the US in cut...I have never been tempted by what I have seen in American stores from Charvet.

I don't know why I resist just hopping the shuttle and going down to Geneva or Paris...must be a Sox vs. Yankees thing.

But, shirts are currently the worst thing in my wardrobe. Acres of balloony US market Borrelli, a few RTW Jermyn St. wares from H&K and H&H, and the original batch of RLPL English shirts. Not bad, but not great.

I wish that I had started with good fitting shirts, and branched out from there.
