It's funny how every "hobbyist" group has their whacked out theories/beliefs/arguments etc. With us in clothing, it's the whole handmade verus machine made etc etc. The watch guys have their inhouse versus ETA movements and the audio guys have their cable/cable cups thing.

Your speaker cables are shielded you know... and the closest source of interference that the cables are exposed to are each other.. the positive and negative cables.... If you are so sensitive, why have you not physically separated the strands? And why do many manufacturers even twist the strands (albiet shielded) around each other?

Unless there is a scientific way to prove that its better (i.e. signal degradation), then its just a tinfoil hat argument.

But global warming does not exist. RFI fields will protect us from it.

Twisting cables actually makes the signal they carry more resistant to interference. That's why modern ethernet cables use twisted pair topology as well. Why not get these nice Nordost Valhalla speaker cables? They claim to transmit signals at 88% speed of light. They only retail for $10,700 a pair (3.5M) and besides you get this awesome wood carrying case for free.

Some audio cables, but not speaker cables of that length. You have bigger problems in that room to worry about than imaginary EM coupling between your power cords and speaker cables.

No cable attached to the TV...just DVDs played off a PS2.

RJ,

Quit being a *****. There is a big difference between audio tweaks that I can try and judge for myself (remember I practice professional audio engineering so I have some idea what to listen for) and global warming. I do think the Earth is getting warmer but there is no way to determine reliably if humans are the biggest factor.

Socal, that is a beautiful design for a media room.

What gear are you using? That one piece looks like B&O design.

Again with the ad hominems... Really, if you're going to dish it out you should either take it or at least quit interpreting any comment as a personal attack.

But you've just been told that the styrofoam cup trick is completely useless. In fact, isn't that something that someone with a basic knowledge of engineering would know?

Haha that's just my apartment.
The speaker/CD player/AM-FM unit is from Bang & Olufsen.

The flat screen is just some random brand from Best Buy. The PS2 is left over from HS.

It's pictured with a cable box; but, when I moved from my old apartment and found out it would be more than a phone call and I'd have to wait for a cable guy to come and install it I just decided that I'd forego cable TV all together.
