RHCP is an odd beast. I respect them and like them a lot but...I just don't know. And I absolutely HATE Jane's Addiction. You ever want to see a mass exodus buy tickets to Lolapalooza and wait until they take the stage. Wow...People were headed to the parking lot faster than Nick Cage's slumping career. I do like your list, though.

Plus, Sly & the Family Stone were from Oakland.
I figured Cramps/Germs/Descendents/etc could all be named together. X was mentioned, btw, and almost made it to 4 or 5. But G&R? Ehh... I'd agree with you on the Eagles but perhaps because I wasn't born when FDR was in office I simply can't picture them as being an "LA" band even if that's where they started. And I SURE as hell didn't forget QOTSA. Being that they're from Indio, CA, they'd fit into the Top 5 SoCal bands list. I didn't include SD/OC this time around for a reason (Social D). My personal bias would have put them in at #1 with Eagles of Death Metal at #2. I didn't think Sly was from LA but when I checked it on Wiki it said they were out of the same part of town as War. Last time I trust the interweb...

I'm sure this is because nobody's ever even heard of these films.

Who precisely do you mean by "nobody"? I've obviously heard of them. I know for a fact that several other people on this forum have seen at least one (or maybe more) of these movies. Tens of thousands of people have voted for them on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. It just seems like they don't get the recognition they deserve because they are under the radar, or atypical of the genre, or haven't had a real strong presence in the US. (Netflix supposedly has all of these, BTW) I made this list so that people who HAVEN'T seen the movies might be able to be exposed to them, since nobody ever talks about them. And they deserve to be talked about, as they are all singularly great films in one way or another.

When I said nobody, I was shooting for a larger swath of the population, i.e. "Radar Watchers".

You mean the people who made "Titanic" the biggest box office hit of all time?

Tough to argue with that, although I thought the shootout in Heat was nice for it's relative realism.

Top 5 One-Dimensional Actors
1. Keanu Reeves
2. Arnold Schwarznegger
3. John Wayne
4. Harrison Ford (sorry)
5. David Spade

Heat is like 3 down on my(ok, my g/f's) Netflix. I loved Collateral, was impressed visually with Miami Vice. I really wanna see it.

Oh, and you forgot the A+ #1 1-d actor: Mr. William Shatner.

I' ve seen all five of these films and most, if not all of them were mainstream releases in their home countries. I mean kamikaze girl is a big release japanese comedy aimed at teenage girls, not exactly underground art fare is it?

I've seen 2 of them on the big screen and own three on DVD so we're not talking about "Mes petites amoureuses" by Eustache or something.

5 works/people that are over-exposed/hyped:

1) Frank Lloyd Wright
2) The usual suspects
3) La Gioconda
4) Harry Potter
5) Eames chair
