I am going to start a chain of "top five" lists that are entertainment and culture related.

The next person to reply must do three things:

A: Agree or disagree with the previous poster's list.
B: Come up with a somehow RELATED (whether obvious or obscure) but DIFFERENT list than the one posted above you
C: It must be ranked and in order 1-5. One being the best/greatest/most etc. No "In no particular order" posts. That is cheating.

A: disagree - never heard of Akira and Back to the Future? Where's 2001? I also really liked Children of Men. The other three choices are solid.

B. Top Five movies with Harrison Ford

1. Apocolypse Now
2. Blade Runner
3. American Graffiti
4. The Conversation
5. Empire Strikes Back

I can't believe I couldn't squeeze Raiders of the Lost Ark in there.

You haven't heard of Akira? You're living in the dark.

Top 5 movie parodies:

1. Spaceballs
2. Hot Fuzz
3. Airplane
4. Young Frankenstein
5. Shaun of the Dead

Brian: Disagree, Hot Fuzz belongs above Spaceballs. Spaceballs is crap.

The DeFacto Five Rules for Crapping.

1.Make obscene grunting noises.
2.Tilt your bottom at an incline so that poo water doesn't splash you.
3.Sit so long on the john that your legs fall asleep.
4.Eat while on the john.
5.Poo with the door open.

I can't tell if this thread is more High Fidelity or Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. Either way, i'm in.

Disagree w/ Brian. Hot Fuzz and Shawn of the Dead were never really meant to be parodies. I remember reading an interview he gave with the BBC where he stated that he was trying to avoid a Spaceballs type movie. Also, why no Blazing Saddles? Still though, great choices.

My list: Top 5 Mel Brooks Movies:

1. Spaceballs
2. Blazing Saddles
3. Robin Hood: Men in Tights
4. The Producers (The original, not the new bastard movie version)
5. History of the World: Part I

A: Disagree with Bubbly Masquerade. I never poo with the door open. Even when I'm all alone. I just feel weird.

Five crappiest pop culture referencing moments in recent history:

1: The Caveman Show
2: Commercials that parody "I Love The 80's"
3: The "Scary Movie" franchise
4: Transformers.

"Silent Movie" would have been in there instead of "Producers" and "Blazing" should be first. "Spaceballs" could go 4 or 5.

Top five films that take place in/around the middle/dark ages:
1. Braveheart
2. Princess Bride
3. Monty Python & the Holy Grail
4. Seventh Seal
5. The Adventures of Robin Hood

Note: This list is slightly based on how many times I can repeatedly watch a particular film; if it were based on cinematic "achievement," "Bride" would be gone and replaced with "Name of the Rose" and the list jumbled around a bit.

Top five Scotsmen:

2.) Adam Smith
3.) Lord Byron
4.) William Ewart Gladstone
5.) SEAN FUCKIN' CONNERY

I'd leave off Mr. Connery and David Hume and replace them with John Paul Jones and James Doohan

Top Five Celebrities that I can think of that have worn toupees (calling these guys "top anything" is a stretch except for Sean)
1. Sean Connery
2. William Shatner
3. Marv Albert
4. Ted Danson
5. Elton John

Any top five rug wearers that doesn't include Howard Cosell is a total sham.

Top five Cosell moments:

1. His entire on-air relationship with Muhammad Ali, beginning with his support for Ali's conversion to Islam and his refusal to fight in Vietnam.
2. "Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!"
3. "There it is ladies and gentlemen, The Bronx is burning."
4. Anouncing the murder of John Lennon live on Monday night football.
5. "Look at that little monkey go!"

Good thread TS.

I would definitely have Million Dollar Baby on that list and the Ruben Hurricane Carter movie with Denzel W., even though it's probably not strictly a boxing movie. Cinderella Man was a great boxing flick too.

Top five biography movies:

1. Ray
2. Chaplin
3. Ghandi
4. Malcom X
5. The Aviator
