No, it's not just you. But people don't drive, they merely traverse. The fact that driving has had all the aesthetic enjoyment removed from it has rendered it an experience merely to be 'gotten over with' and minimized (see, cellphones) to the greatest degree possible.

Therefore, people have lost the sense of what it is that they are doing. Combine that with the U.S.'s general malaise and lack of any realistic magnitudes placed upon....anything, and you get a horror. I have a 1.78 mile commute, yet I live in the country surrounded by farms. It is awesome and I'm grateful. I do, however, like to drive.

Regards,
Huntsman

I hate people who don't use turn signals.

Then you have those crazies who drive too fast in their U.S. brand pickups or SUVs thinking they're the coming of the Apocalypse of the suburban freeway.

My main vehicle is a motorcycle. I love driving it. I hate everyone else on the road that tries to kill me, though.

And if you want to talk about Atlanta traffic......

Live in the city, people who commute to the city do not deserve a job in the city. I hate people who come into London just to work. I wish they would stick to their cows, trees and mud.

Actually, I don't want to talk about Atlanta traffic.

This place is brutal. The only place I have ever lived where a 10 mile drive routinely takes 45 minutes or longer.

I will be leaving soon and the number one reason is traffic.

This is ******* unbelievable.

I was trying to get from my side of town to visit 4 friends on the other side, and I got in the worst fuckin' collision. I couldn't believe the asshole didn't look where he was going - hit me pretty damn close to head-on.

It's a miracle I'm here to tell you at all.

Fortunately, I got a decent picture of the prick. Who wears all red anyways?

I walk to work. I have commuted in the past, and I hate it.

You should come to Boca Raton; a 5.7 mile commute takes me 30 minutes in the morning. God damn old people...!

Sad thing is I was not talking about rush hour. Atlanta has the 2nd worst congestion in the nation after only L.A. Trust me, don't pack up from Boca Raton and flee to Atlanta anytime soon:

Nationwide, according to the Texas Transportation Institute's Urban Mobility Report 2007, drivers wasted a total of 4.2 billion hours sitting in traffic in 2005, up from 4 billion the year before and from 800 million in 1982. The most recent year in the report's calculations was 2005.

Oberstar (D-Minn.), chairman of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, examined traffic congestions in 437 urban areas and accumulated detailed information on the nation's 85 largest urban areas.

Atlanta maintained its No. 2 ranking for the number of hours the average driver spent stuck in traffic.

Thank God. Suburban dwellwers are counter productive for society. I won't even mention what I think of rural dwelllers.

Were you part of the problem or part of the solution?

Atlanta traffic has a very predictable pattern/schedule and getting stuck in it in is your own fault. You choose where you live, where you work, the distance between them, and when you travel back and forth.

Friday afternoons are uniquely awful, though.

Yes, predictable in the sense that from 7 AM through 7 PM it moves at a crawl. I had a dentist appointment in Sandy Springs today. Driving the 14 miles or so back downtown to work took me an hour, and that was at 9:30 AM..

Choose when I travel? Do you work in corporate America? I am afraid "I will start work at 5 AM and leave at 3 PM" would not work for me, or many others. I also would not live in downtown Atlanta if you paid me to. I live less than 20 miles from my office, which is hardly extreme commuting. The lack of public transportation here, the awfully inadequate infrastructure, and the poor drivers (if it sprinkles rain, the freeways become immediately clogged with accidents) make commuting here what it is. Can't wait to leave.

Why do you feel you are allowed to work there then? Woudn't you be better suited to farming?
