Why not all of the above? Stick it through your girlfriend's nose, lock her in a box under your bed, then sell her on eBay. If she doesn't reach your minimum asking price, throw her out.

I think you have the right idea about hemming to a 35. I'm glad you're not trying to go true inseam or anything. Since dior is meant for people over 6ft, i don't think hemming an a few inches would be a big deal. Wherever you go try to preserve the proportions of the taper and width of the hem. Look good though.

I was wondering if you guys think Acne jeans are overpriced? I found a pair that fit very well. They are marked down from 299 to 225. Are the jeans just not that great in terms of quality and/or is there a brand that can give me similar fit without the heavy price tag, or are they very good jeans that are worth their price?

I am not talking about things literally here. In other words, those people who tell me that Dior Hommes are not worth 350 because nothing is worth that much need not respond. I recognize there is a price for fashion and for brand name; I'm just wondering if, given that I know and am willing to pay for a brand name, respectably fashionable jean, they are worth their price tag?

I don't think that they are really worth that much, if you are talking about construction, trims and denim.

WANT agency, which also represents Nudie and Filippa K in North America, charge **** prices. Check out Zoovillage, which is pretty standard European retail. The price for Acne Raw Mic and Max is 100 Euros. Even with the completely **** dollar, that is about $140. That is about how much Acnes are worth. Check out Revolvelothing.com, which is pretty typical North American retail. The same jeans are $249. Now, I know that there are additional shipping fees, and tariffs, and of course the desitributors need to take their cut, but... I can send the jeans individually, Fedexed overnight, for less than $110.

HTC used to charge $180 for the selvedge Nudies, and I believe that Famous Friends charged $160, which are fair prices for what you get, and considering the extra shipping and tariffs. Acne denim is about the same.

Acne's rigid/raw jeans are about $150 from Denim Bar. That is a decent price for a reasonably nice, modern cut, that isn't made with the best denim.

Their washed jeans are about $300 retail, which is ridiculous and nearly impossible to justify IMO.

These brands are positioned very differently for the European and US markets. In the nordic countries, Acne, Filippa K and Nudie especially have very wide distribution and can be found in almost any of the typical pedestrian stores at reasonable prices (they need high volumes here to get the means necessary to expand to other markets). In the US they are perceived as much more luxurious/high-end because of the limited distribution and that they are *much* more expensive than their competitors (if you are talking about quality, construction etc). Of course, the same is true with US brands that are sold in Europe. Earnest Sewn for instance are more than twice the price over here, and is perceived as even more "high-end" than I would think Acne is in the US.

TO HEM OR NOT TO HEM...

I just bought these Dior 21cms (Japanese) and I am thinking about hemming them (if I keep them). They come with a whopping 38" inseam, and I am thinking of hemming them down to 35" or 34". I am 5'11" Do you think I should do it? These cost me an arm and a leg, and I don't want to f*&% up. I know a lot of people say don't hem them, let them stack/bunch, that is the Dior look, ..... But I think they are mostly talking about the 19cm, not the 21cm. I don't think the 21cm look as good with all the bunching around the ankles. Thoughts?

I know that most of the jeans discussed on SF have better quality/construction than Diors, but I really like the fit.

I hemmed my MIJ 19cm to a 34" inseam after much deliberation. I am 6ft and 165. I really wanted to make sure they were going to be my "project" jean for quite a while and that there was no chance of me wanting to resell them (they lose much of their value after hemming). I am much happier with the look of them now!!! If you wanted to be anal you could make sure the new hem gets the original chain stitching... (about $30 at Denim Dr.) I didn't bother.
