I have been given a 5kg catering 'jar' of Nutella. The Use By date is around six weeks away. I reckon I can use a kg or so on the girlfriend, after that any suggestions. I usually have it on a brioche or crackerbread in the morning; aside from that...
I hate to waste...

Good lord. We bought a small jar (.5 kg) maybe half a year ago for making some gelato (not nearly as good as the real thing), and ended up freezing that for a while. I doubt you'll have to throw it out by the 'use by' date, though. That's a conservative guideline.

That Nutella will still be good next year. If you refrigerate it, it will last 2 years.

So are you saying with chocolatey things like this the Use By is something very arbitrary; practically meaningless?
This is good news; I didn't even consider freezing a possibility...
Banana and nutella crepes are so addictive and moreish; a great combo. Also, the cake idea might use up a good kilo or so. Nice idea.

It works quite well for that. Also, it's good long after the "use by" date.
