Removing Ding from Auto Body

Some mofo recently dinged the side panel of my car in a parking lot. It's not huge, but definitely noticeable (about the size of a quarter). My question is, should I take the car back to the dealer (they do body work on site) and pay what will probably be an exorbitant price to remove the ding, or should I just go to any ol' local body shop?

There are also companies that specialize in removing dings from doors, assuming you mean ding as in dent and not a scratch.

Depending on what it looks like it may be able to be suctioned out or it may have to be banged from the inside to even it. Usually the size of a quarter is around the limit for the suction methods. Anything larger may have to have more work done.

I had a similar situation with mine except it was larger and they said it would cost a pretty penny to have it done so I have to wake up every day to it.

As said, there are local guys that will come to you and remove your dents. The dealer uses them too. No need to bring it in and give the dealer extra profit for not doing a damn thing. They typically charge $25 and up; a ding the size of a quarter will probably be around $100. If you have more than one, they can typically work out a deal and do all of them with a discount. Sometimes they charge a bit extra for hard to reach areas, but your door panel one should be a piece of cake.

My girlfriend's brother runs and operates a dent removal business. Something like that should be easy for anyone who knows what they're doing. My suggestion is to look for someone local who does it (check your yellow pages or online). Typical charge for something like that is $20-100, but it depends on who you hire. You'll save money by not having to pay extraordinary prices and the job will be done much better.
