Hi, There is a pair of jeans on eBay I want to purchase. The problem is they have a 34" inch waist size and I'm currently a 31" inch waist size. Is there anything I, or maybe even a tailor can do in trying to reduce the waist size on the pair of jeans I want purchase to make them fit???...

Any replies will be appreciated...

You can, but it would alter the overall shape of the jeans. Not worth the effort, IMO. However, if the jeans are in a raw state, you can shrink 1-2" by washing it in hot water and dry in high heat.

I didn't want to create another topic, so I figured I'd post this question here...also since I'm getting no answers from SuFu.

Basically, I have a pair of 32 Skull 5507. I've lost a bit of weight, just a bit. I'm already a skinny guy, so it doesn't make any difference in shirt size but just a bit difference in the waist. I'd say I'm more of a 30/31 waist now.

My Skulls have stretched to a 34 waist now. It would be totally fine at a 33 (better at a 32) since I wear my jeans at the hips. I have soaked them once (besides the initial soak, of course, since they were raw) and they stretched out pretty quickly.

Do you guys think just getting them altered 1" would really make a difference? Do you think a tailor could do it?

Altering the waist of a pair of jeans is very tricky business; they could go pear-shaped _very_ easily. I'd say try to shrink them in the dryer (although they'll stretch out again), wear a belt, or buy new jeans.

buy the same jeans new. the amount of money you'll save buying them on eBay will be wasted on the tailor, anyway. Even if there were no risk involved, why spend roughly the same amount for a used pair of jeans when you could get them new, especially with all the knock-off jeans sold on eBay these days. You know forum members get discounts at several jean retailer's sites, right?

That would apply to something cheap like 501's however I doubt you'll find much Skulls on ebay.

altering it that much will affect how it looks overall. 1-2 inches i think should be the max that any pants should be tailored in the waist. anything more and you will have to re-cut the whole pants to make it look right.

My tailor reduces the waist of jeans by removing the belt loops from the sides to the back and sews internal darts behind each loop location and then reattaches the loops over the darts. This only works well if you need the reduction in the waist not the seat area.

+1 Otherwise you'll have the Bananarama circa 1984 paperbag jeans effect. I'd sit this one out and wait for an auction with the right size, or at least not 3 sizes bigger.

as a rule, you should never alter jeans except in the hem. especially on a jean which is still made. just buy a new pair and sell the old one. simple..

Waist alteration is of < 2 inches is pretty straight forward for jeans, I've had it done. Seat alteration shouldn't be really tried. I've also had jeans slimmed in the knee area with great effect as well.

I had a pair of jeans taken in at the waist by about 1.5 inches, maybe more. She did an amazing job, couldn't notice anything.

Personally, I'm hoping it's not going to be an issue since I have a pair of BB's that fit great but need a good 3 inches lopped off the waist band.

can anybody do this type of alteration in DC or Northern Virginia? I have a pair of RRL slim bootcuts that i've been debating having altered. Fits great in the seat, thigh, etc, but about 2 inches big in the waist.....
