Kabbaz Shirts

Aside from the collar styles which I won’t comment on; these shirts look very similar to those sold at Joseph A. Bank, Brooks Brothers and other high quality business attire retailers.

You should appreciate this, they actually have tissue in the sleeves. Stuffed in their by the cleaner.

That is a good idea. Do they roll the tissue paper into a cylinder shape or crumple it up a little to provide more structure?

They probably roll it into a cylinder for a smooth shape. The last thing you want are rumpled shoulders.

Actually, it is more crumpled, for structure. Kasper, you know a lot about this. Are you in the biz?

You beat me to it. The shirts deserve better, even if their quality is unknowable.

Thanks for the pictures of the nice shirts. Since I've not had a chance to see any in person, I guess I'll never really know if the quality is higher than that of Brioni or Kiton, for example.

I find it makes no difference to how they wear.

How can I know those are Kabbaz shirts? The cheap paper covered hangers seem deliberately used to hide the interior label.

Is there some debate going on here about the quality of Kabbaz that I'm unaware of?

I always assumed (based a bit on the price tag) his shirts were top notch (unlike his website design, informative as it is).

Manton's shirts look fine, aside from the hangers and collars (I have a strong aversion to spreads/windsors/cutaways, mainly because the look terrible on me).

I get mine at the shirt place that Manton does not like, but I am sure that Kabbaz can also make shirts for a fuller figured guy. Have your friend call.

It was more a debate about whether quality exists, how it can be judged, whose word can be trusted, how many opinions are necessary before the sample size is valid, etc. But Kabbaz figured prominently. J squirrelled it.

It's not so much that I don't like them; the shirts are good and I still wear all the ones they made for me. But in my most recent dealings with them (now two years ago) they made mistakes and then told me a lot of BS to try to cover those mistakes. Since then, they have apparently been telling a phony version of the story to others, who choose to reference that with allusions to dark motives rather than give any specifics. FYI, I have laid out all the specifics of my complaint in the past and would do so again if anyone cared.

I also found at Geneva a greater willingness to make incremental changes, and the follow-through to see that those changes get made. As a result, my Geneva shirts fit much better, or at least, fit more according to how I want my shirts to fit. Geneva's buttons are also better, though not as good as Kabbaz's.

Many people -- including Kabbaz and Carl Goldberg -- say that Paris is better equipped to make unusual commissions. This may well be true. They made my formal shirt, and it is terrific. I haven't asked Geneva to do anything unusual.

Haven't you recently said that you own 1 Kabbaz shirt? Have you got 2 more Kabbaz shirts after that.

As to your picture, the shirts look great. But it's impossible to tell from a picture at that distance. How can we judge fabric, feel, etc.? What you say about the buttons, and the way they are put on certainly indicates a very high quality shirt.

Last questions. Someone said something about a $600 shirt. Aren't Kabbaz shirts closer to $1000? And finally. Didn't you once say something like, A Kabazz shirt is especially nice, but that you didn't think you would buy another for $1000! So, did you break down and buy 2 more?

I happen to like A Kabazz and think he is a great member of the community, and brings a lot to the discussions. And I'm part of a large group in SF. I'm not in the market for $$$ shirts as Alex makes, but based on what I've seen and heard(admittedly second hand), I feel quite sure that Alex makes a superb shirt.

Mafoofan seems glaring in his absence of this poll and discussion. But perhaps that is what he wants.
