I usually wear a 32, I bought them in 32 and they initially felt a little tight in the gut (like when sitting) since I put on some winter pounds but they've stretched out just enough to be very comfortable.... I'd say they're fairly true to size, they'll stretch some just like any denim but I don't think there's any need to size down 3+ sizes like some brands. here's a few old shots of the fit when I first bought them:

Wow. Those fit you fantastic. Perfect for the slim, but not skin tight look. I always thought the 1980 would be a bit too big for that.
