Gentlemen, I finally decided to get a quality umbrella: Swaine Adeney Brigg Model

Two questions: a) Size: I am rather tall (185 cm). Would you recommend a size 26'' or 27"? b) Canopy: Is silk much better (durable) than nylon? Thank you very much.

I like that umbrella (I went for a whangee handle myself) and I'd go for the longer brolly. Silk is no better than nylon. I must say that I'd go to James Smith & Sons for my next umbrella. There are pleasant men in the latter shop who could cheerfully bore you to tears with their umbrella erudition.

Thank you very much for the link.

"Our Gentlemen's Umbrella is available in three standard sizes: a size 25, size 26 and size 27. We would suggest that Our Standard size 26 is perfect for a gentlemen of 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet 2 inches in height."

One more thing:

Would you buy the umbrella above with a gold or a silver collar?

Thanks.

IMO, the silver collar is trying too hard and is not the standard, but it's obviously an individual preference.

Although this has no bearing on the question about length which I believe has been addressed, I want to share some information about umbrella repair to those in need.
I have used on many occassions a gentleman in Brooklyn for complete repair and restoration of umbrellas. He recently restored an heirloom of three generations for us and we were extremely pleased with the outcome.
His name is: Gilbert Center

Gold costs more than silver and as people don't k now that it is plated, gold will look fancier
