These are some really nice pictures of the original Big Pilot, gdl. How come that you didn't just change the strap, but the folding clasp as well? I prefer the folding buckles, as they make sure the watch won't drop by accident when you put it on or take it off. Thanks for your comments about the Journe RDM. My personal favourite of the Octas is the Calendrier. I posted the pictures of the T3 and the BP as well as the Journes and the Patek to show that a watch collector can love big as well as small watches. My smallest watch is a Patek 5034. It is tiny compared to the T3. Still, I like wearing both of them on the right occasion.

Changing the strap is key on the Big Pilot. It's design sucks. The short end is way too short and the 18mm buckle is very questionable. I'm sure that's why gdl didn't use it - the 18mm size. He appears to have a 22x22 Panerai style strap on it now.

Nice watch Marrakesh. I have been eyeing a black dial Air-King for the past few months but havent pulled the trigger b/c of its size, 34mm as you know. How do you like your AK? Anyone ever mistake it for a women's watch??

Matt,

You need to switch to macro mode on your camera. Zoom in from as far as you can. That should help.

If it isn't a camera phone, look for the macro setting -- usually symbolized with a little flower -- that way the field of focus can be closer to the lens.

sysdoc - although I find the BigP's buckle beautiful in and of itself, there are a couple of issues with it that led me to change it right away for a thick Panerai style strap: (1) as Thurston noted, it tapers too much - the watch is big and heavy and an 18mm buckle is just too small for such a heavy watch IMO - the balance on the wrist is off ; (2) I tend to generally prefer tongue buckles - I think they allow more flexibility to the fit on the wrist. Some folding clasps (e.g. the BigP one) have a curved shape that doesn't fit my wrist very well - some people turn the clasp around to solve this kind of issues but it doesn't always work. I also have never had a problem dropping a watch and tend to be pretty careful so I don't see that as a compelling argument for deployants.

The strap shown is a Dirk (pre-Vendome style) strap and it comes with a pre-V style buckle sewn in.

I actually think the BigP would have been better off with a 24mm lug space and a 24/24 untapered strap but I can't change the lug space

I like this one but I also think that classic AirKing looks great with a black leather strap.
