That's funny - what I like most about the silver dial is the blue indices.

zjpj, I'm usually not much of a vintage fan but that I really like that one.

Thurston, that's quite a collection. The Jubilee is gorgeous, and I see you got your 5001 the same year I got mine (pre-revision slow-beat movement).

I just bought an IWC Novecento, which is one watch I've been lusting after for ages. I'm cheating now by posting a stock photo, but I'll take photos of the actual watch once it arrives. Auto perpetual calendar with moon phase.

I had an original Big Pilot. I loved the movement, but it was ridiculously big and uncomfortable. It also drew too much unwanted attention. I sold it and replaced it with the 5001. It allowed me to keep the movement I loved in a more wearable rendering and pocket about $1000. I wear this watch quite a lot. The really funny thing is that I hated it when it was first released. I felt that the applied markers, date, railroad track and power reserve all kept it from being a true Port. I have changed my opinion 180 degrees.

What do we think of

I think these watches look amazing, as I'm a big fan of the large face but they seem quite high at 14.5 mm

That is a lovely watch. A perpetual calendar is a beautiful complication and really, to me, shows all of the mythology of time and the history of watchmaking at the same time. Congrats!

Well put. When I first saw this model about ten years ago, it was love at first sight. I believe it is the only perpetual calendar cased as a tank.

Nope, but I would if I had that kind of money to spend on a camera. The MP is gorgeous and built like a tank. Unfortunately, it's part of a dying breed.

The unwanted attention is definitely a problem. People look at my wrist and go 'whoah'. On the plus side, nobody ever thinks it's an expensive watch. By far and large, I think most view it as some sort of quirky affectation.

I, however, don't give a damn. I like it. Most of the time, it's under my cuff anyway.
