I want to place a Vass special order. I really like the model pictured below, although I'm a little nervous about the pointy nature of the U last. It looks great in this picture (I'm assuming this is the U last) although I've seen other pics where it looks extremely sharp and extended. I may get this model in the F last. What do you think?

Also what color is pictured here? Is it antique cognac?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Chris...

That is the U last and it is antiq cognac. I, for one, don't find the last to be overally pointy. It is a squared toe to be sure but quite elgant to my eye.

That being said, the larger your foot size, the more pronounced the last will be.

This shoe would also be magnificent on the rounded F last. You can't go wrong either way.

If you even have the faintest of doubts about the U last then go for the F last - you will have no regrets whatsoever. It is a really elegant last. If you really like somewhat pointed chisels then you will like the U last but it is really not for me. Even then maybe one day I will reconsider.

Thanks aportnoy and Sator (two of my favorite posters!). I'm waiting on a response from Eiko so I'll have a few days to think about it.

Btw aportnoy...you'd be proud of me these last few weeks. I've managed to purchase:

RLPL Carter - Dark Oak/89
Lobb Abbey - Polo Brown Suede/1105
C&J/Polo Benton Cap - Tan Burnished Calf
C&J/Polo Marlow Tassel - Dark Brown Cordovan

On deck:
C&J/Polo Redway Tassel - Snuff Suede
Lobb Brooklands - Black (My one black shoe/boot!)
Vass Old English - Antique Cognac

To order Vass I would email Gabor Halmos who is the US East Coast rep for Vass. I have emailed him for a few weeks now and the only thing hold me back is that i am not sure of the sizing. I have read a few threads about Vass being very unique in the sizing dept. and since I have never seen any of the shoes in the flesh, never seen any of the finishes and have never placed my foot inside a Vass shoe, I haven't been able to bring myself to order them. Gabor will accept your order though and delivery is 8 weeks which is significantly less than other designers. He did tell me that the workshop will be closed in August so keep that in mind. I see that you have a pair of Vass, what has been your experience on the U last sizing?

All excellent additions Chris! I'm especially covetous of the Brooklands, maybe it will find its way into the JL sale next week?

No, No, the Brook is not a boot. Please, Sator, you are the button boot kind of man.

And especially you know, where you can find them. Btw, ZAK, Vienna has some of their famous boots in stock. In black/grey & cognac/cafe au lait. They also have some nice shoes on display and then right away to dinner in Sacher's Rote Bar

I have two pair of U last and they're both in centimeters (42, in my case) that run pretty true to a 8.5. I have relatively narrow feet, but they accommodate the widest part of my feet without trouble, which is not something all shoes do.

Ok thanks. Can you pm me his email?

When I listed the Vass Old English as being "on deck" I meant that I plan to purchase them soon. So...I don't have any Vass experience yet.
