As I'm Canadian I am partial to the Avro Arrow. As it has been said, it's the closest thing the canadian industry has had to a love story and a murder mystery. For those unfamiliar with it's story, Canada was actually ahead of the US in post WWII aeronautics technolosy. The Arrow was designed and built in less than 4 years in the 1950s in Canada and was decades ahead of its time. But because of political reasons the prime minister at the time (fuckin' Diefenbaker) shut the program down. Asshole. Then he had the prototypes destroyed, and the blueprints burned. Asshole x 2. Then most of the workers on the project moved to the US in a massive brain drain and ended up becoming lead engineers, program managers, and heads of engineering in NASA's manned space programs. Asshole x 3. Last year a group of volunteers finished a full scale replica of the Arrow for its 50th anniversary.

Here are a series of video clips on the Arrow.

While we are on this airplane thread, I should ask if there are any pilots in this forum, either private or commercial. I have my private, but haven't flown in about five years. I want to go up again soon.

LabelKing,
I can find some pictures of the interior if you would like, we were not permitted to go inside the aircraft since the VIPs were touring it when I was out there. I did see some other people took pictures though.
Just so you know it's not a standard airline interior, it's one temporarily designed by Airbus.

JB, I think you'd like that, a tail comparison between the new A350 & A340:

airlines interested in whether the A350XWB can go 10 abreast without too much discomfort, be interesting to see.

The A350-1000 is supposedly to compete head-to-head with 777, but GE so far is unwilling to supply Airbus engines large enough to power the 350-1000. That leaves only RR but airlines hate to have just one engine supplier.

Thanks for the diagram, I haven't seen that. It is likely that not too many airlines will actually go with the 10-abreast arrangement though. That seems more A380-esque; stuff as many passengers as possible.

Von Rothbart is also correct about the A350 engines, however the A350 is meant to compete with both the current 777 and future 787 which is being built. GE has only built engines for the 787.

I have always hated airlines "like" that one. This does not change anything.
