How is Turnbull & Asser bespoke shirts from NYC?

I fancy the british styling and bold use of color stripes how is the service, timeliness, quality of tailoring?

Service is sloppy, delivery is about three months, and the sewing is decent quality machine sewing. Despite the less than ringing endorsement I am a customer of the London store.

Even thought T&A has many unique fabrics, you could probably get better service and a very similar style from a locally-based shirtmaker.

I was a T&A (NYC) customer in the early 90's. I never had a problem free order, always some error. One six shirt order had three different sleeve lengths. In NYC, at that price-point, I'd probably go with Geneva.

Six shirt minimum order!
Four months response time...

My experience with them would lead me to simply buy the fabrics from them, if you feel you must have a particular T&A fabric, and go almost anywhere else for the shirts. Even those Indian hotel-tailors provide better price to value on shirts than T&A.

Yes, there is an excellent selection in packets in the bespoke room.

I recall that the packets went for about $75 to $85 for the classics and exclusive patterns.

I used to use Turnbull, but I have drifted away for no specific reason. I found the quality excellent although I can understand how some customers dislike the long waits since the shirts get shipped back and forth to England. Also, the prices keep escalating. On the plus side, once you fulfill the minimum order of six, on subsequent orders there is no minimum.

What are the current prices?

I visited the T&A store in LA yesterday. It's a nice store with very friendly service in that solicitous British way, and one can indeed buy shirtings for about $75 for one shirt's worth of material. Delivery time is about 6 weeks if they don't have it in stock. When I was in there, an older gentleman came in to collect his shirts, and he told me he'd been with T&A for decades, and would never use anyone else. I guess his experience with them was pretty good.

They also had a nice selection of ascot/cravats, silk scarves (and had one on a mannequin tied in the same way as the Satorialist's recent pictures from Pitti Uomo pointed out in Iammatt's recent thread --- they go for about $245), ties, cufflinks, pockets squares, cashmere scarves (which looked like Alex Begg scarves), and quite a selection of handgrade C&J. I saw a whole bunch of 337 lasted shoes there, but wasn't quite sure if any of the Paris lasts were there. The handgrades were $650, so I guess there's now a new source of English shoes in LA.

It's a nice store, and well worth a visit if for nothing else than to see a wide range of very colorful patterns.

what is the fabric 100s 120s?

That's pretty good pricing on cloth. I recently paid $35/yard for some beautiful 160s at CEGO. I might need to check this out.

Do you mean $35 for the total cloth required to make a shirt, or $35/yard? I ask as $35/yard isn't an exceptional deal - Acorn's Grasmere (2x2 160s) can be ordered direct from England for $23/yd. (36").

CEGO is a pretty good value for the 100s-120s I have seen there - typically $15/yd for 60" shirtings.

Panzer it was $35 per yard, but they were 60" goods so I only need two yards for a shirt. I would need 4 yards of the 36" goods, so the price was slightly better but still not great.

Hence my desire to try T&A for $75/packet.
