without the tassel, it really wouldn't be that bad.

They remind me of the traditional Greek Honour Guard "pom pom" shoes:

I agree. I always crack up when there's one of these "Ugliest in the world?" threads and then click on the pic to see a shoe that, while something I'd never wear, is nevertheless nothing all that egregious. I think we could do better. Where's that pick of the crocodile shoe with the spike/horn ridges going down the middle? Now THERE'S an ugly shoe.

By the way, Trogdor, who's that looker standing next to the guard in the second pic you posted? That a friend of yours?

More weird than ugly. If you cut the tassels off with a pair of scissors they'd be vastly better, though still weird.

Your are right, weird is the right word, or strangely funny, or ridiculous more than ugly (the color is not bad)... But it's a non-sense anyway... I have the strong feeling that the shoemaker wanted to show all what he's capable of in one and only one shot... Funny but ugly

Interesting idea.

He wants to save money on advertisements, so instead of having two different shots for a tassle loafer and an oxford, he just blends the two of them and makes the viewer do the rest. Maybe we're supposed to use our imagination and think of how nice a tassle loafer and an oxford would be from him as two separate shoes.

The tassel looks like a merkin.

Wow, zjp. I'm just trying to imagine the design team meeting for that first pair:

A: "Well, I like them... but they need something."
B: "I could always put a green eyeball on the side."
A: "Brilliant!"

I find the pompom-shoed guard being very uncomfortable next to that yellow-shorted creature. Hilarious.

You forgot about this version with the ridges. It would look great with a white suit.
