Are High Price Shaving Creams Really Worth It?

I started using the Kiehl's shaving cream a few days ago and I have to say that this stuff is the truth. It gives a close, smooth shave and no razor bumps (a major problem for me when using shaving foams) even though I'm just using a Gillette Sensor Excel.

KMF shaving creams perform just as well as the top shelf British creams IMO. Does this stop me from buying the expensive English stuff? HELL NO

Art of Shaving system: badger brush, pre-oil, cake or cream, after-shave lotion.

After a lifetime of razor bumps, cuts, and not-close shaves, I'm in heaven. Is it worth it (what, $50/year?)? Hell, yes.

Would it make a difference to you? I have no idea. Depends on how bad your beard is, I guess.

What pre-oil do you use?

+1 on Kiss My Face. Good prices (I purchased online) and it leaves me with a much smoother shave than a Gillette or Edge plain aerosol gel. It is tougher to lather, though, and I'm still getting used to that (only 3 shaves in) but I feel a lot smoother once it is done.

blank, the secret to get a good lather from KMF is to use a shaving brush! Use a brush, it will explode with rich lather....probably the best lathering shave cream I've ever used, and I've used quite a few.

Surprised not to see Nancy Boy mentioned yet. Amazing stuff, the razor just dances on your face.

Another shout for Trumper's. The creams last a long time, which deflects the pain of the high cost of purchase.

Even better is the Trumper's soap line. The Rose and Sandalwood are both fantastic and far outlast the creams.

I always used to use Barbasol, until my girlfriend gave me a Billy Jealousy giftset for christmas. Now all I use is the Hydroplane. It leaves my skin smooth and razorbump free. It is a lot more pricey than Barbasol, but it makes my daily shaving something to look forward to.

well they certainly were not high priced, but a little more exotic than the supermarket brands....received my Mama Bear soaps yesterday. 7 bucks each, smell beautiful, and feeling pretty damn smooth this morning.

rig = mama bear soap, merkur futur, badger brush from eBay.
