Today I spoke again, with Mr. Gray Eyebrows, waiting for the #7. When I told him, that I was Astorian, he said that is the famous place, of moussaka. While eating previous, on many occasion, the moussaka of Astoria, I never knew that it was, famous in, Manhattan, or perhaps, all the world? Sometimes to me, unless I drink the ouzo first and after, it doesnt make a wonderful, impression. Perhaps of the taste, it is my mistake? I will make a test, soon, of all the moussaka in Astoria, and hope some Manhattan people here, can help in this moussaka, quest.

I'm a big fan of Zenon Taverna on 31st Ave between 35th and 34th St. They've got a good mousaka. But I'm really partial to their sheftalia and pastitsio. It's also hard to go wrong with their meze.

Sheftalia? Are they the real thing (done with caul fat)?
Damn I miss the stuff soooo much.

Caul fat? I don't know. I'll ask the next time I go. Would I notice that after the sheftalia has been grilled?

I really think Zenon Taverna might be the best restaurant in Astoria. It's definitely my favorite.

Hmmm...I know that when we joined the EU there was some conflict over the usage of the stuff (food safety reasons supposedly). I would not be suprised if the FDA did not like the idea either...
