"Alden" doesn't really vary from its standard line-up of shoes. "X" model is offered in some calf and black/color 8 shell on the "Y" last. Certain retailers will order runs of special make-ups; some are one-offs and some are signature-type make-ups where the retailer will have it in inventory as their special make-up.

The monk strap isn't the most popular shoe - there is less buzz associated with it. IMO a retailer isn't going to tie up the cash for a model that won't sell out quickly. Tom at Leather Soul did a NST monk strap last year in Ravello which is my favorite pair of shoes but aside from that I have not seen another special make-up monk and wouldn't expect to see many in the future.

I def can wear it with denim, but I'm an apc petit standard guy vs a Levis 501 guy. I guess it's about being overly preppy haha...

Totally agree on van last being tricky to fit (slip ons in general are). I do have experience though in this case

The monkstrap is also produced on the Leydon last.

Last bit of advice - Citishoes in NY has done a whisky LHS for a number of years, most often with dark edge trim (unlike Mac's which are the natural or antique edge trim). IMO the Citishoes version isn't as atrractive.

Other than that - go for it.

Shoe Mart has a medallion monk makeup although it also has a captoe.

Do the LHS's have decent arch support? Most loafers do not (and make my feet hurt as a result).

i believe there is a steel shank in the LHS for some support. But they also have a low instep and for some that can be an issue...
