Since RSS execrates explicit discussion of manners, perhaps we can pose directed questions to understand some of his WASPy aristocratic ways. Let's face it, few of us know anyone IRL who was raised with a dress code for certain parts of the home. I hope we can come up with some construcive questions, and RSS is willing to play along with us philistines.

If they are invited to a dinner party they will dress (without my asking). If it's family alone, they dress as they wish. I don't have rules per se. I'm simply more comfortable in a coat and tie. My manner of dress is habit ... a hold over from youth. I'm probably quite a bit older than most here.

Solution? Get some cloth tape from CVS, and line your collar.
You can now wear the shirts 5+ times before laundering.
Disclaimer: This doesn't work if you're a fat sweaty slob.

I have cousins who dressed for dinner as kids, when they were home from prep school. 3 out of 4 have grown to be pretty good citizens, parents and adults. I don't see this as a bad thing at all.
