When it comes to posting ... horrible or not I enjoy it ... it is something to do when I have bits of free time. Of course, of late it seems we've both slipped a bit in terms of post quality. But there were some glory days! I fondly remember many of your posts.

FYI: I think you might approve of a recent shift in my way of looking at things. As you once said ... it's about which is least pernicious. Not that this will change my posting quality.

Since RSS execrates explicit discussion of manners, perhaps we can pose directed questions to understand some of his WASPy aristocratic ways. Let's face it, few of us know anyone IRL who was raised with a dress code for certain parts of the home. I hope we can come up with some construcive questions, and RSS is willing to play along with us philistines.

My children are now grown and they don't follow my lead. I think they are terrific kids and it doesn't bother me one bit. I respect their independence. If they are invited to a dinner party they will dress (without my asking). If it's family alone, they dress as they wish. That's pretty much how it was when they were younger (although there was guidance in the early days).

I don't have rules per se. I'm simply more comfortable in a coat and tie. My manner of dress is habit ... a hold over from youth. I'm probably quite a bit older than most here.

Revolving, you seem like a very practical man (based on the posts below), I'm sure you'll get the hang of things on your own.

Yes, I would only consider the generic solid white (no pattern),
b/c it's the least likely to be identified as "common" Walmart fashion.

How do you avoid laundering dress shirts just for the collar?

Solution? Get some cloth tape from CVS, and line your collar.
You can now wear the shirts 5+ times before laundering.

Disclaimer: This doesn't work if you're a fat sweaty slob.

Naturaly my family did not host a bris. But somehow the deed was done. I have not felt compelled to have foreskin restoration/reconstruction.

This thread has reminded me that I'll likely never be reunited with my foreskin

I have cousins who dressed for dinner as kids, when they were home from prep school. 3 out of 4 have grown to be pretty good citizens, parents and adults. I don't see this as a bad thing at all.

If at dinner you make a particularly droll remark to a guest, and you catch your butler smiling, how many cane strokes are considered appropriate?

Man I would have loved that at the time. Pretty sure I wore bow ties to birthday parties as a kid, by my own choice.
