Rumor mill say Hedi may be taking over at Cardin. Interesting, given it's a brand I do not at all pay attention to (men's side of things, at least)

Also, speaking of shoes, just got my pair from the Fifth Ave Shoe Repair sale on Gilt, and I can't figure out how they're constructed. They have welt-like stitching around the upper but no visible stitching under the sole. Is this some construction method I haven't learned about or a clever glue job? Might even call 5ASR if I'm feeling anal. Made in Portugal if that matters

it means that the sole is channeled (the stitching is underneath a thin layer of leather on the sole). It's harder to do, and it's better than visible stitching because the stitches are somewhat protected.

if you wear the sole down a bit you'll see the stitching.

Not a fashion thought but has anyone here ever worked for the Fund for the Public Interest? I did for a day and I feel disgusting and used. I've never been so angry with an organization before, especially a nonprofit. Anyone who has worked for them will know what I'm talking about. It was the Manhattan office, btw.

I severely doubt they are channeled for that price

Sounds like they want a repeat of Dior Homme. I'm down, Cardin's womenswear designs were awesome and it would be cool to see Hedi picking that up, maybe with a little of the Cardin appetite for color.

around $400usd retail? maybe, but it's not unheard of. The peal and co by AS have channeled soles and they retail around $500. Probably cheaper being made in portugal. FWIW i have a pair of saks in house brand which were made in portugal that are pretty nice, slightly above AE quality (no channeled sole though).

I mean it's either a channeled sole or it's a fake welt. it'd be pretty ****** if they had a fake welt on $400 shoes.

Employees are grossly underpaid. They exploit young idealistic college students into thinking that the job will involve things other than simply canvassing, which is just harassing people into making "small monthly contributions". In reality, the company wants the personal info of the donor to harass them more. Their only goal is getting donations. Discussing the issues is considered a waste of time. Some employees pocket cash donations. Things like transportation, etc will not be compensated for. Hell, employees buy pens for the office with their own cash. And they're broke as ****. Lunch breaks? Overtime? Minimum wage? These words are not in the Fund's vocabulary. Directors work 70+ hour weeks. Though a lot of this goes unrecorded because it's "volunteering". Do research. There's a class action lawsuit against the company. Your interview tomorrow? Some grimy hipster **** is going to conduct a group interview. They failed to mention that, right? You'll take one look at your peers and question if this is a joke. You'll go into the office for a one-on-one interview. The dude won't pay attention to a word you say. You'll get the job on the spot and be asked to come in tomorrow. You will again question the legitimacy of this job. The next day you will come in at 9 am and you'll start practicing the canvassing rap (SALES PITCH) for an hour or two. What was that? You don't think the canvasing rap is a good way to discuss the matter at hand? You didn't sign up to beg people for money? You thought you would be in contact with lobbyists or elected officials? You didn't realize Environment New York (or California or wherever) is operated by the same guy who operates the fund? You were offered a managerial position yet 90% of what you do is canvassing? Tough ****. Oh and if you don't meet quota on your first day, you're fired. Read these. I'm far from alone. http://flameow.livejournal.com/6142.html http://mydd.com/users/christianmille...action-lawsuit http://www.angelfire.com/indie/fundi...ndIsLying.html

Most fashion shoes arent even goodyear welted, or blake rapid welted, they are just blake stitched at most or glued I've seen some raf and jil welted shoes Alot of fake welting tho, you cant really just trust that line of stitches on the top, better off looking on the bottom of the sole.
