yes, very similar to the Dover, broader last

the longer vamp when covered by a low cut trouser hem means it looks like an Oxford, but has the casualness of a Derby if needed. Also, simple = versatile IMO

... but a quick sizing question first: if I am a 9UK in C&J 341/337 or Church's 173, what F-last size should I get if I am after a chukka?

43 or 43.5?

Apropos, 43 is equivalent to a UK9. IMO chukkas stretch more than any other shoe, (although Slewfoot says his Vass chukkas haven't stretched a few posts back) so I would go 43 not 43.5

I never said they are more versatile, but, for me, I prefer less adorned open-laced shoes and the reduced number of eyelets is in keeping with that preference. Now that I think about it, I own only two- and three-eyelet bluchers/derbys.

fwiw, it also depends on fit preferences. e.g. snug versus "loose"

another factor is the ability and willingness to work on fit.

Thanks for that. As per fritzl I prefer my shoes to fit snug.

Any comment on how the P2 fits compared with the F? I would imagine there would be less elongation, and more width in the same size.

I don't think they're wider. If they are it's not by much. If you look at the P2 tree it's just a bit fatter overall - a slightly higher and more rounded toe box. I really like the P2: it's not clunky, and although it's not as exciting as the F or the U, it has a nice balance, which is very hard to achieve and seems to take shoemakers years to perfect. Bit like the EG 202 in its smooth roundedness. the other distinguishing features are the unbevelled waist and the heel: it's broader and flatter (lower) than the F last. I think the Norweger, for example, looks better in the P2 than the F.
