If you have one you should use it. Self mirror shots are nearly always bad. For lighting why not just go outside like a lot of SFers seem to do? If that isn't an option and you're not a fan of flash, set the camera (with tripod) up in a room which has the most natural light. Then choose a wider aperture and slow shutter speed. This will allow the lens to capture more light. You MUST remain extremely still during the shot though, or else your photos will be blurry.

I like them a little beat-up, fritzl... My Saviles look much worse, mostly because they don't fit as well as these seem to fit macaroni. (But steel tips would be a good idea.)

I like the colour, last shape and model. I think I remember that thread.
