Lunch today, what to eat when it is pushing 100 out
:
This is 20 bucks worth at Franklin's BBQ. I think I ruined myself. I have been all set to hate the place: long lines, stupid "sold out" sign every day, lots of local press, skinny white guy with hipster glasses, etc. Drove by there today with a buddy about 12:45, only a couple of people in line outside the door (more line inside). No sign up, yet. Pulled in and did the "doofus in line" number.
That food was Goo-ood!
The photo is of two 2-meat plates, brisket and ribs. Really tender, just the right amount of fat. What's his secret? Not sure, but: ribs were definitely "rubbed" with lots of pepper, and? Possible hint of a vinegar marinade? Not sure, didn't ask. BBQ isn't usually marinated around here, but wtf, whatever he does, it is tender. My buddy said he thought the "secret" was that he started with better than average meat. Don't know, but buddy is a cattleman, so, maybe so.
Anyway, my verdict: I'll still eat other places, I hate lines and I like several of the old places around here. But: Franklin's is more than allright in my book, even if he does look like he just dropped out of grad-school! Damn fine BBQ. -S.
