Jacket too small/tight? Also Brooks Brothers Extra Slim Fit shirt pic

Ignore sleeve length on jacket -- hasn't been to tailor yet. Is this jacket simply too small/tight for me? It feels okay in the chest and shoulders, but I'm concerned it is too tight in the hips, which causes it to pull apart and show too much tie/belt. I'm a 39" chest and this jacket is size 38. What do you think -- try size 40?

Also, here is a Brooks Brothers Extra Slim Fit in 15.5/34. How does it fit? Sleeves too long?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Have to size up in the jacket, for sure. How does the BB feel on your shoulders? I can see it being tight, but otherwise the body doesn't seem too slim to me. The sleeves are too long, you're right.

I think that the jacket can be let out in the waist and would fit near-perfectly. I'd take it to a good tailor to see what could be done. The shirt fits pretty good. If you're satisfied with pretty good - keep it. If you're not, then go bespoke or MTM.

Either above or size up to 40 and take the jacket in (yet the chest may be too loose and shoulders may be off).

Anyone think the sleeves on the BB shirt are NOT too long?

I haven't washed it yet, so maybe they will shrink a bit.

Why are you saying size up in the shirt? Because of the pull near the shoulders?

Thanks!

Maybe not size up, but not so slim. Looks tight around your belly. Shirt should not really hang like that.

Thanks for the tip.

What about the length of the sleeves on the BB shirt? They're 34. Should I exchange it for 33?

I don't think I would, but I like my sleeves kinda long...it's hard to tell just from one pic, especially when the jacket sleeves are too long in the others (and therefore it's hard to judge the shirt sleeve relative to the jacket).

I don't think you should size up in the jacket as it won't fit in the shoulders. I just don't think that's the right jacket for you as the buttoning point and suppression doesn't flow right.

I've noticed that high buttoning points give very little room for error when it comes to how tight a jacket fits around the lower torso.
They seem to really exaggerate a tight fit.
