I'm going to go against the grain and say neither.

Ugly suit and not strong enough for a sportcoat. If you like that kind of pattern, the English (harrisons/minnis) do much nicer suit patterns.

Seems the overall opinion is that the fabric is definitely for a suit. I asked if it could be a sportcoat because of this image of one Fred Astaire's Anderson & Sheppard jacket. The patterns of both his coat and the swatch I posted have a similar quality (not quite bold/loud, but also not so subdued) and I know how Mr. Astaire's taste is regarded around here.

Would you think me a fool wearing a jacket in the cloth posted with odd trousers or is it just passible (now that I've provided a visual reference point)? I was looking for a pattern in this color (black/white) that could do double duty (sportcoat/suit hybrid). I know the sure fire choice would be to go with navy, but eh...

your pic looked brown on brown to me. A black white/grey white PoW works as a sportcoat.

To be more accurate the fabric is black & cream/beige.

The pattern on that A&S jacket is also quite a bit larger.

Not. Moombeam is a jacketing (wouldn't work well for trousers).

Now he doesn't mention Harrisons specifically but that looks like Harrisons.

Looks like this one.

The overcheck on Luca's suit looks pink on my monitor whereas the moonbeam you posted has a light blue overcheck. I don't know why anyone would get a suit made of moonbeam,that stuff is too soft.

FWIW, despite my skepticism, a couple of tailors have told me Moonbeam should be fine for trousers.

There may be some in the bunch, but most, even to my untrained eye are too soft for trousers.

They're all the same weight and finish, so I'm guessing these 2 tailors (one American, the other British) meant their comment to apply to the whole book.

I'm with you though - not sure how well Angora would translate to trousers.
