The GOT material is better than Rome. Even though Rome took liberties, it was still ultimately constrained by history. I have no idea what the Rome motion picture is going to be like, but I am definitely going to see it, since it will focus on Vorenus and Pullo and not have to worry about the historical accuracy as much I'm assuming.

Rome was great, but I, Claudius it was not.

I just caught up on the show and have been keeping pace alongside the book. It really is amazing how well they captured the little things from the book. I can't wait to see how the rest of the series plays out.

Only casting decision that I really don't like is Jon. Someone said it earlier in the thread that he seemed dimwitted and I agree with that. Ilyn Payne is a wash since he's not really present for much of the book. The rest of them are spot on with Ned, Arya, Sansa, Jaime, and Tyrion being the favorites. Peter Dinklage must be thanking his lucky stars for this role.

The only complaint....well no, not complaint, but observation I have is the huge age difference between the characters in the book and show.

I definitely understand why they are so young in the book (life's tough, and 40 is considered old), and why they had to be old in the show, so yeah just an observation.

Yeah, this is pretty cool, some of the dialogue is verbatim. Although two things that are still bothering me are the diminished roles of the dire wolves and missing Stark child, Rickon.

Did they just write him out of the series?

I suspect that the age differences of the children has to do with child labor laws. The animals, on the other hand, were always going to be a difficulty. The fact that they've been able to incorporate them at all is amazing to me. I was really expecting CGI when I first heard about the series.

Rickon was 3 in the book and they've made him 6-8ish. He was in the first ep when the king showed up. Haven't seen him since, not that its a big deal.

I'm at the point in the book where Catelyn just seized Tyrion to bring to the Vale. Very little mention of Rickon so far.

And what do you mean about child labor laws?

Rickon has a very minimal role in the first book, so we're not really missing much.

I hope Bran grows up to be a badass to save House Stark. It's so obvious right now that Ned is a moron who is going to get eaten alive by the Lannisters.

Having children under a certain age working on set around violence and animals and whatnot.

That's true. Just weird that he hasn't even been addressed, peeps who haven't read the book probably don't even realize there's another Stark sibling running about.

The people I know that haven't read the books can barely keep track of the characters that are actually involved in the plot, I don't think introducing a toddler without a storyline is really going to benefit them any.
