Getting advice and business contacts from people...

How daring/cheeky do you have to be to get information/contacts/favors from someone??

Here is a few scenarios

1) A person I have known since childhood, but not spoken to for a few months, but they have the contacts I am looking for, how do i approach them for the favor or just advice?? I feel bad asking them straight out after not having spoken to them for a while.

2) A friends father owns a business, but I don't know him personally, how do i go about setting up some kind of meeting with him to discuss a few things??

Thanks, I am such a business novice it is scary!!!

actually, I wouold say in both cases it is pretty fair game. the first case - call him up, tell him you want to pick his brain and you are buying lunch/drinks. in the second case, you can ask your friend to set it up, and if the father isn't an asshole he will meet you. but, in the second case espectially, don't push it, if he doens't want to do business with you, thank him for his time and that is that.

Hmm... I was thinking these guys could provide me with the breakthrough but I won't hold my breath.

looking to secure some sort of deal with a clothing company to become a vendor. proving very difficult. i have never done any sort of business dealings and i have no idea if i am going about it in the right or wrong way. just trying to find things on the net and calling companies direct.

looking for any pointers in the right direction.
