Luckily, you have appointed yourself the protector of all who have 'internet balls' and feel they can freely type things they would not say in person, but can't take it when it comes back just as hard.

Seems like you don't understand the concept that Patrick isn't defending individuals but rather the notion that people are allowed to have opinions.

You seem to feel like you get a pass at insulting people if they have differing opinions. You are certainly entitled to that behavior. Rather hypocritical for someone who likes to talk about respect but entitled nonetheless.

I don't mind them but I'm not real sure that they are genuine ostrich. I've been buying Ostrich from the premium producer--Klein Karoo Farms in South Africa--for near on to 40 years. I've never seen ostrich as dense or as thick as it appear on these shoes. What's more the quill bumps look to have pulled flat over the toe. Real ostrich seems to make the bumps get more pronounced when the surrounding leather is stretched. Nor does there seem to be any center to the bumps. On real ostrich a large (3-4mm) quill would have been firmly socketed within each bump...only to be removed just prior to harvest. I suppose this could be some odd vegetable tannage that never caught on but it looks so remarkably like a print....

Again, you push the envelope Isshy. Unique style - and the most eclectic collection of high-end shoes on the forum - by a long shot IMO. Not what I'd would wear myself, but the world needs sartorial boldness - why not? - and you've got it in spades.
Nice throw on the couch BTW

Totally agree. Do other makers do this cross-hatching or is it a G&G specialty?

Opinions are fine. Acting like a jerk while giving them is something else. "I read Edwin CRAP shoes first! Certainly the design is!" is either being an @sshole, or it's having a little fun and taking a friendly poke. Either one is fine with me, and my response is correct for either scenario.

Give a little, take a little.

If he has eclectic style, he should have thick skin for it. This is the internet, it's always brutal.

Further proof just how far Vass are ahead of Alden/AE using the same material supplier.

If you hadn't reminded me, I wouldn't have even remembered. Does Horween have "grades" of shell, or is it just good old fashioned craftsmanship that makes even the leather itself appear so much nicer?

Being a natural material, no two shells will ever be identical. The maker selects the shell he'll work with and decides how to cut it. Clearly in the Vass, each piece is carefully cut with the grain running the same way, unlike Alden or C&J which seem to be cut randomly and show dichromatic tendencies, so much so that many pair look two-tone, no matter which way the light hits them. Then there is the matter of lasting and stitching...

Shell does not have grain, unlike calf.

THIS and Alden also dyes its Color 8 to that ugly eggplant color. WHY?
