Was that Dries on sale?
full interview hereWells Stellberger: The first collections were trial and error in a lot of a ways. It was the beginning of everything so we were trying to find factories, build relationships with tanneries… You know, we had such a variety of growing pains in the beginning, but now we’re slowly working out the kinks and have factories that we enjoy working with and have a good relationship with. That, I think, is the biggest platform for us to produce the best product and, essentially, make collections as we envision them to be—as opposed to what we were trying to do, but the people couldn’t make or the materials weren’t right.
Emma: What were some of those things?
Wells: We bounced around from Spain to Argentina to Mexico. We’re now in Hong Kong. But in all of the factories there was some sort of issue: the quality wasn’t what we expected. Our collection is very quality, but we also want it to be at a decent price—more attainable to more people. So that was a hard balance to figure out and we never were able to find the quality that we wanted.
Thanks mello. Yeah quality was one of my concerns too. I really like the shape of the shoes but I've heard lmao complain about shoddy construction etc, although gdl apparently was very happy with his pair. Interestingly I once read this interview w/ the brand's designer in which he seemed to implicitly acknowledge dealing with qualities issues when the brand first started:
