We had a retreat at my office and we pre-ordered some sandwiches. I ordered the Chicken Salad and it came with this hard, crusty bread that was a pain to chew. Even more, the chicken salad squirted out of the sides as I bit down hard on the bread.

I know that hard artisan breads are in vogue with the foodies now, but can you make the outsides a little easier to bite down on. I may have some brusing on the upper part of my palate.

I'm going to retreat at my office and order the Tuna Salad and will let you all know if this is as prevalent as OP claims.

I agree with OP actually. Hate when crusty bread is not fresh and scratches the roof of my mouth. Also hate when sandwich bread is too hard for it's filling.

Not to defend the pantywaist but a few years ago I was at my dentist replacing a tooth that a dog had knocked out and I asked him what the biggest cause of tooth damage was. His answer? Hard bread.
