Do you wear a jacket while sitting?

This seems like a naive question, but I have never worked in a place where suits are required. You never see Sartorialist-style photos of people inside at work, and I'm wondering how it plays out.

SF has gotten me hooked on neckties, and now that I have a bunch, I like to wear them to work, but it sometimes seems odd to wear one without a jacket. On the odd day that I do wear an odd jacket (I never wear a suit to work) I usually hang it up as soon as I sit down, so it's only on for a short time each day. What about you daily-suit guys? Are you pretty much in conservative business dress uniform all day?

I generally keep my jacket on when sitting down (accept when I am at home). Depending on the fit, I may or may not button it while sitting.

I take my jacket off if I'm working at my desk for an extended period, but otherwise I tend to keep it on.

Usually jacket on in the office unless it is uncomfortably warm (which it usually is not with HVAC). Unless it's a DB, I never have it buttoned while sitting.

Plus if I never take off my jacket how would I ever show off the definition in my arms?

It is, horses for courses and all that.

Upon occasion, but is is not compulsory and let no one claim that there is (god like screams), a RULE that requires it.

I, too, keep my jacket on in the office. I am the subject of much ridicule for that fact.

But haters gonna hate.

I always unbutton when I sit down, and button when I stand up. (I don't have any db)

I wear my jacket at work(in a client facing role) pretty much all the time, if I go to the back office or anything for extended periods of time I take it off.

I wear it probably 90% of the time unless it's super hot and stuffy. When sitting down I just unbutton my jacket. Simple.

In a formal place (theatre, opera, diplomatic meeting, etc.), I obviously keep my jacket on - everybody's doing the same.

Nevertheless, when working, or teaching to my students (college), I regretfully remove it. Two reasons for this:

- When I'm talking in public, wool becomes SO DAMN HOT. I can't even concentrate at some point. Being really active is being really warm.
- When I'm in the office, using a laptop, I like to put my elbows on the desk. Very comfortable for typing, but you're killing your jacket fastly (and elbow patches are ugly).

Though not optimal, it is perfectly honorable to remove your jacket when sitting, as shown by the noble and wealthy Gerald Grosvenor:

I like to leave mine on due to my chubby stomach. =)
