The Lakers are not the better team right now, and right now is the only time that counts.

Pau better wake up and stop wasting Bynum's efforts, and Lamar needs to come up huge in game 3. A little bench guard help would be nice too....

^maybe they should start Odom, Bynum, Gasol, Artest (if not suspended), and bryant and just go all out for game 3.

Yeah...if's and buts....but Jesus H Christ....how the hell do you go oh-fer behind the arc?!?

IF even 3 of those go in, we're playing ball.

Can I also say that this was one of the few games I've ever seen where I felt Phil had a huge hand in the loss. Barrea was going all Every-quick-PG-against-the-Lakers-ever for 6 minutes and he just left Steve Blake's dead body out there. I get the whole zen master thing (11 champs, duh) but come on man....DO SOMETHING.

What? Game 1 was given away by the Lakers, they were not embarrassed in that game, they just lost it. It was more due to stupid Pau decisions and inconsistent calls. Game 2, you can look at it as an embarrassment but they were right there with them until the end. It wasn't a dominating Dallas win, if they blew the Lakers away by 20-30 points I'd understand but the game did stay close and the lead was practically single digits the whole game, hell it was a 1 point deficit by halftime. I usually get nervous when watching the Lakers, even when they were leading, but on these past two games, I felt a bit more relaxed until the 4th quarter when the Mavs pull away.

Since the Mavs are going small, it might really help them if Artest is suspended and Barnes takes his place. Barnes seems faster and more agile, better for smaller and faster guards while Artest is stronger and tougher, more suited for bigger players.

Usually, but tonight he was a freaking disaster. I'm talking offensively and defensively. I would have taken that d-league-er over Blake tonight.

Thanks, but isn't Johnson a SG, not a PG? In any case, he hasn't played a minute. The "emergency bigs" don't play a single minute either. At least Mbenga and Powell contributed.

As long as they win, fine...but I fear with that line-up Kidd, Terry, Barea would just carve them up completely.

The problem is the Lakers don't have a defensive guard better than Blake. I completely respect Fisher, but he just can't handle these guys anymore. Brown is no d-guard. No other options, really.

I guess I see it differently, then.

Giving away that lead in G1 was embarassing; at least I thought it was. A champ team needs to shut down games. The Lakers didn't, when they had the game in hand. That's embarassing.

G2 was definitely embarassing. Dallas played pretty much at will; again, champ teams just don't let the opponent do that.

The 4th quarter counts...a lot. $ time. The Lakers don't own it this year.

There was, as often is the case with these guys, very little team defense. Blake was hung out to dry, and there was no support, no funnelling, just late, slapping arms. We've seen it so many times from the Lakers against penetrating guards. Can Trey Johnson, a life-long D-League SG, really play NBA play-off PG D? Maybe Luke should be starting!

So pretty much any loss is embarrassing? They had the lead and lost, it's embarrassing. They do not have the lead but stayed closed and lost, it's embarrassing. Obviously losing by 20+ pts in a game is embarrassing. So....

I mean seriously, I am not being a Laker homer or anything but the Mavs didn't feel like they dominated either game, the Hornets game 4 win looked more dominant over the Lakers. It felt like they couldn't catch up. In tonights game, there were a few turnovers there by the Mavs that could have turned the game easily, the Lakers just didn't capitalize. It felt like the Lakers could catch up anytime because the Mavs couldn't pull away until the end when Barea penetrated and made big plays.

I don't really understand your point.

No, every loss is not an embarassment.

However, the fact that the Lakers should have clamped down and closed out both these games and just couldn't do it is somewhat embarassing, yes. These aren't "quality losses". The claim that a team "could have" when they obviously simply didn't (or couldn't) indicates a problem, and I find that frustrating. There just seems to be no fire. The teamwork has been lacking and at this point in the season, on a team of that caliber, that is embarassing.

Even if you're not a Laker homer, being down 0-2 in this manner to Dallas isn't the least bit embarassing? To me, it is. The Lakers have not looked good, and while I think they can still win this series their play has lacked the killer instinct that Dallas seems to have found. We can call it whatever you prefer, but they are losing games they should be winning, and that's....

Anyway, good night, and let's hope for some real dominance in games 3, 4, 5, 6....

This is stupid, it's embarrassing because they ar elosing games they should be winning? This is the playoffs, every game is a must win. The Lakers are the defending 2-time champ, by your logic, they should be winning every game and every loss is embarrassing.

Hell even the losses by the Spurs aren't something I consider embarrassing and they are a 1st seed that lost to an 8th seed. Being eliminated was a bit embarrassing but mostly because Steve talked them up a bit much. Overall, the Spurs had a great season and injuries and age really fucked up their chances.

The Lakers are going against the Mavs, who has the same record, has gotten tougher on defense and a team they never met in a post season series in over a decade. No one was predicting a sweep on Dallas in this series. Dallas may not be one of the favorites but they have been a very good team throughout the season when Dirk is on the floor. This an elite team, not the Pacers who barely made the playoffs with a minus .500 record. Again, the games were close and could have been won. It was no where embarrassing.

Bulls really kept Crawford and Johnson under control last night compared to the previous game:

Monday:

Crawford: 22
Johnson: 34

Wednesday:

Crawford: 11
Johnson: 16
