Where is sysdoc when JL museum calf needs some supporters ?

That said, it's a little bit ironic and certainly a sign of the current hype cycle, that in a conservative business dress thread of all places, the acceptance of gunboats, boots and all sorts of dutch clogs are consistently getting a pass or even a nod. But then, the more city and sleek shoes are frowned upon and called "fey" if they happen to do deviate ever so slightly from a conventional cap-toe, plain toe, monk or wingtip. Of course, this too shall pass...

Does not capture my opinion.

I like museum calf.

I don't mind sleek shoes.

I just don't like "unorthodox" shoes. I like classic patterns/styles.

Also, I don't think those are ugly shoes per se; I just think they are not conservative business dress.

I find it interesting that a guy who wears sportcoats that look like explosions at the Crayola factory can't handle plain white pocket squares or socks that are even mildly interesting.

Just thinking the same. The smooth worsted combined with slimmer fit looks much better than the usual 'baggy and textured' look. Top drawer and nice shirt and tie combo too.

Almost invariably if I wear them without suspenders, even though the adjustment makes them properly snug in the waist, I periodically have to pull them up. Which raises the question, why the #*%+ don't I just always wear suspenders?

I wear plain white squares, I just don't wear squares often anymore. Since I wear loud coats, I like to keep everything else sedate. And what do you have against the Crayola factory, why do you hate America?

I actually don't mind your coats all that much, in a I'd-never-wear-that-but-it's-well-done way. And I understand your logic with regard to squares and socks with your Crayola jackets, but I don't understand why you seem to want to impose your preferences on the rest of us. I'm not wearing my socks with your jackets, I'm wearing them with my (relatively sedate) outfit. Add the fact that my socks aren't visible to anyone else 90% of the time, and I really don't get your fun-sock animosity.

I actually like your socks a lot. They add a subtle visual touch to your otherwise sedate outfit. They are far, far better than the horizontal-stripey-mess that gets displayed (and applauded) a lot in the regular WAYWRN. Who's the maker?

I like to think that I don't do that, at least not to the extent that others do. I acknowledge looks (like o/o today) that are not anything I would wear. Given that this is the conservative business dress thread, I thought the socks looked out of place, although I really barely said anything by saying they were "interesting". At worse, this was a harmless critique. Anyway, i'll refrain from crtiquing your stuff.

You do have a very dogmatic approach to and a narrow definition of what a "good outfit" should be. You're definitely not the only one. There's been a slow
foo.gif
ification of the forum over the last couple of years where many want to make it a point to articulate sets of strong personal rules written in stone and carve out particularly narrow niches of men style. Any ideals of variety, eclectic taste or slightly unusual pairings are derided by default - sometimes silently permitted. Some are comfortable binding themselves into a small box because it makes them feel more comfortable about their choices - others dislike that feeling. I think we see successful examples of both here.

e.g. "you must wear a pocket square."
