Start off with a little warmup...

Alden Tassel Loafers on the Aberdeen last in #8 Now, onto the good stuff. I checked my phone and saw that my roommate signed off on a packed. Hmmm. I wonder what that could be. I look inside, and I see this:

How nice, a lovely green box.

First EG's, very excited. Now, if only the rain would stop! Also, thanks to the Shoe Mart and Leather Soul for the excellent customer service, fast shipping, etc. Leather Soul especially really went the extra mile with some delicious coffee candies, a thank you note, and a bit of Saphir polish. Will definitely order from both companies again.

Am I the only one who cant stand the look of the Dover? Everyone raves about it, but I don't get it. It looks marsupialed, if shoes could be marsupialed. And I like most EG designs.

I don't like it either because I simply don't like split toes.

It's weird.

The dover is on the top of my wish list at the moment - but any time I show a photo of the dover to any non SF person or comment on it when I walk past the EG shoppe window - they look at me as if I'm mad.

I cant get into them either. I bought two pairs mainly because of the SF love and ended up selling both of them because I just never felt like wearing them. Ironically, I sold my second pair to theyare, who put pics of them on his very thread and they look jaw droppingly beautiful in the pics. Go figure

606 last. And if you give me your sizes in other brands I may be able to help you out with sizing issues.

You are not. I would not use such a strong language. I just do not understand the devotion to Dover. I do not dislike split toe shoes. I would rather have G&G Isham. To each its own I guess.

Yep there's def a bit of group-think about it. and it's hard to get past 'second most sublime RTW shoe' and 'EG flagship' - but if in some horrible nightmare i had to choose only 2 pairs of shoes, a Dover on the 82 in dark oak antiqued willow calf would be one of them, and not just because in the 82 last it's the equal (with Vass F) most comfortable RTW shoe for me.

It's got great balance - if you look side on, the seamless counter compliments the stitched vamp - the Vass Norweger e.g. doesn't have that. The higher toe-box means it doesn't pinch and the shoe look more substantial. The square waist and double sole gives it weight and dignity - is there a Lobb that has the Dover's gravitas and 'manliness'? (The Chambord is inferior).

It's unpretentious, not flashy, so it's easier to love over a long time. It's a derby that goes great with suits.
etc etc

and there's the pig bristle artisanal stitching

It's funny how different lasts fit you,I wear 11D on the alden plaza last and they fit me perfectly but I take 44.5 on Vass F last.
