Can having a bachelor's degree work against your career mobility?

Getting an entry level job out of college is easy. But it seems like the mid-level jobs are reserved for people who do not have degrees (maybe it appears that they will stay with the company for a very long time?). In my case it seems I can get interviews for tons of high-level positions (only to be edged out at the last minute to older workers with more experience). I cannot seem to grow out of my entry-level call center purgatory (its been 5 years now). What to DO?

Maybe your degree isn't a substitute for actual experience?

This thread should be titled "Why am I not promotable?"

I would say the undergrad major can and will work against you moreso than having vs not having a bachelors degree.

I'd say they'd reserve those jobs for people without degrees because they know it's the best that person will get, so will be more likely to stay. You, with your big shot "University" degree, will go and become a trillionaire after being promoted!

As dead-end as it gets.

+1. Nobody wants to train you and then have you leave for a better job.

I don't think we have such degrees here in Canada, if we do, not very many places would seem to offer them. What ever happened to the standard degrees? Commerce, Engineering, Sciences, etc...? I had to google it to find out what the degree was. You need to have a degree in how to work at a call centre?
