Get your budget up. Not many great watches in the $2k range unless you are only considering used ones.

I could swing $4k for something nice, but I'm trying to keep it in the $2k range.

I also wouldn't be opposed to used so long as they're legit with papers.

This page makes me glad I'm content to get the time via my cell phone, even if you all would think I was some scrub liable to dig through the trash for food because of it.

edit: I get next paged so often.

Omega basically makes in-house movements but it isn't fair to say that it is 100% true because they are the supplier of ETA movements. I mean they do make their own movements but it is also distributed to many other watch companies. To Omegas defense, they make great and robust movements, the movements on their watches tend to use modified or "better" versions so they're reputable.

Sinn is a good choice, they make good watches but not many retailers out there where you can check out their stock and there is nothing like actually holding these watches and judging them in person.

B&R but it isn't the best for your buck watch.

For $2k, a used Omega Speedmaster or Seamaster Bond is a great choice, it's just a matter of buying from a reputable seller/dealer. Those two are the perfect starter watch in that range.

I also like the Breitling Colt auto, you can probably get a new one for $2k.
