Gross.

I agree on the shoes/sweaters/leathers thing but if you're interested in any garments with any unconventional design sensibility you're going to end up spending money on that ****, can't go to target and buy a sleeveless pleat-front wing collar shirt a la Ann D. Not that that's really my deal.

+1 on the shoes and outerwear as being the only things you really need

+1 on this. They're hard to destroy (for the most part) and you can get a lot of mileage out of them. Ex- a nice leather jacket.

IMO knits are kind of iffy on joining the above. You can generally go cheap on some knits (basic Vs and crews) and then occasionally grab some more interesting knits.

You are lucky that you can get away with plebe pants. I wish I could do that, but they make me look dumpy as hell.

Though on the other hand this. It's easy to go plebe on everything else if you can find good options for them. It works great for mellow b/c he can get away with uniqlo for pants and buttondowns... but that isn't true for alot of people. I'm yet to find a cheap option for either... the closest being H&M for cheap dress shirts.

all brooks brothers dress shirts, all the time. I wear the same two pairs identical of CdG pants every day to work, too, just get them laundered in tandem. Only switch out jackets. Own more leather jackets than I do work clothes

Most of the pants I wear are from +j they are great for the price. As for knits I like ervell, inverallan...it's hard to go cheap on those.

Plebe + tailor = your plebe **** fits perfectly. I wear uniqlo oxfords that i've taken in at the sides, tapered-below-the-knee dockers, and ties from C21 to work every day and I look better than everybody except for the executives. The only part of my work wardrobe that I've spent any real money on were a pair of AE PA's (which are on ebay regularly for about 2 bills).

Need to praise Lanvin, my shoelaces broke, i mailed them - now they have replied and asked for address, it seems that they are shipping free laces.

But, i also need to ask - The CCP Overlock Leather Jacket, is it possible of tracking it down or should i just already forget about it and start looking for other alternatives?

I'm slowly but successfully weaning myself off of designer clothes and becoming more okay with plebe brands

I'm okay with this and it was necessary as I really was never in a financial place to be copping like I was. Plus now that I'm moving into my own place, it had to be done.

I think I'm getting old or something because after I got home and took off my suit jacket, I put on my toj leathers to see how they looked in the mirror with suiting and actually thought it looked sorta good

I wear a leather over my shirt/tie with slacks on the way to work every morning and I think it's a good look too.

I find it so lame to brag about looking "better than everyone except the executives" in your office. Your last few posts have been about how you don't really "care" about style anymore, and that's fine, but what's the point of still posting here then? There's enough noobs just wanting to look "better than the average guy" without you doing it too

I wasn't trying to brag, i was simply saying that you can look good (i.e. better than most other people) by tailoring basics. Which was the topic of the conversation.

And it's not that i don't care about style or fashion or clothing, i just don't care about upping my own style beyond what it is, given the non-internet environments in which I spend much of my time, which is different. Just because kopping ballah **** is not what i'm interested in doesn't mean that a) my opinions aren't valid when well-justified, and b) that my posting here is just ******** all over the forum.

My last posts about not caring have also been mostly in response to people (i.e. jet) attacking me for "spitting game" while not backing up my opinions with expensive or particularly out-there fits. I think, after spending a lot of time here, I have a fairly decent understanding of how style works and, even if I choose not to turn myself into a personal representation of that knowledge, I can still contribute to discussions.
